Day 1
Arrival Narsarsuaq. Pick up at the airport and welcome meeting at the local café.
In the afternoon/evening we recommend the little hike up to the viewpoint on "Signalhøjen", the "signal hill". Narsarsuaq is a former American military base and many remnants are witnesses of the time, like the abandonned installations of the radio station on the hill. The beautiful walk up takes about 3/4 of an hour leading through lush vegetation with flowers in all colours and birch trees growing higher than yourself - a fact seeming normal to you, in Greenland it isn't. From the hill top you have an impressive view of Narsarsuaq's river delta, the glacier and also on the village of Qassiarsuk on the other side of the fjord which you will visit the next day.
Accommodation at Hotel Narsarsuaq for two nights.

Day 2
In the morning boat transfer aross the fjord to Qassiarsuk. The village, called Brattahlid in the ancient norse language, is situated across the fjord 15 minutes by boat from Narsarsuaq. Today it's an agricultural village with thriving sheep farms. 1000 years ago it was here where the famous viking Erik the Red settled. The village is a perfect combination of history and modern Greenlandic rural life. A visit to the norse reconstructions of Tjodhildes Church and the longhouse is a must.
You can also hike on your own from Qassiarsuk towards the fjord Sermilik on the other side of the peninsula either taking the gravel road or following sheep trails through the rolling green hills. It's a beautiful walk, passing various small lakes and every now and then meeting the mother sheep of the local farmers with their young  which roam the mountains freely during the summer months. On the hightest point approx. Half the way you'll have an amazing view on both fjords. If you follow the road further it will lead you to the minuscule village of Tasiusaq (approx. 16 km return trip). Only two sheep farming families live at this truly beautiful spot, the fjord almost almost filled with icebergs.

Day 3
In the morning check out from the hotel but you can leave your luggage at the hotel until it's time for check in at the airport.
Guided boat trip to the beautiful Qooroq Ice Fjord among icebergs of all colours, sizes and shapes. When the glacier is in view the boat engine is stopped so you can enjoy the absolute silence. A great moment for a little drink with authentic glacier ice, more than 1000 years old!
Back in Narsarsuaq we recommend a visit to the local museum featuring the village's history, with collected items from the time when Narsarsuaq was a military base. Alternatively have a coffee in the cosy little local café.
Departure to Reykjavik or Copenhagen (check in one hour before).

Temperatures and Weather

Temperatures in South Greenland can vary notably from morning to evening, from day to day, from one place to another. The weather in summer can change rapidly from blue skies with a burning sun where you sweat in your T-Shirt to storms with rain and even snow. The Foehn, a warm fall wind coming from the ice cap is a frequent phenomenon. It is therefore recommendable to prepare for everthing when packing your bags. Layer technique has proven to be the most useful.
